India’s no. 1 Somdev Devvarman has made into the second round of the men’s singles event of the ATP Masters $3,645,000 Sony Ericsson Miami Open qualifiers while his compatriot Yuki Bhambhri has crashed out in the first round on Tuesday.

The 20th seeded Somdev got past David Guez of France in straight sets by 7-6 6-4 in the opening round. Somdev was made to fight hard by his 139th ranked opponent in the first set but Somdev held his nerves to win the first and second set to wrap up the match.

Somdev will now clash with the third seeded Ukrainian Illya Marchenko in the second round. Illya had defeated Joao Souza of Brazil 6-1 6-3 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Yuki’s campaign has come to an end as he has gone down to top seeded Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 1-6 3-6 in the first round.
