Shoaib Akhtar set for another comeback to Pak squad

Shoaib Akhtar set for another comeback to Pak squad Islamabad, Apr 6 : Troubled fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is set to be included in a 15-man Pakistani squad for the upcoming one-day series against Australia after he passed a fitness test in Lahore.

Chief selector Abdul Qadir expressed satisfaction with Shoaib's fitness, and said team trainer David Dwyer and the Pakistan Cricket Board's medical officer, Dr Sohail Saleem, had also cleared him.

Shoaib last played for Pakistan in the one-day series against Sri Lanka but was dropped midway for poor form and fitness. He then pulled out of the Tests against the same team due to a knee injury.

It appears as if the 33-year-old has regained full fitness, and chief selector Abdul Qadir has made it clear that he wants to the experienced pacer back in the national team.

"I would definitely want to see Shoaib in the team for the Australia series. He is an experienced bowler and an asset to the team. But it is not just my decision alone, the team will be finalised after consulting other selectors and captain Younis Khan," Qadir said.

Pakistan are scheduled to play five one-dayers against Australia in Abu Dhabi with the first match taking place on April 22. (ANI)
