Peshawar, Apr 28: Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, former interior minister and chief of his faction of the PPP, has said that the present day PPP-PML-N coalition government in Pakistan had no role to play in drafting Waziristan peace accord, and claimed that it was drafted by the previous regime much before the February 18 polls.

Sherpao said that the country's intelligence agencies and the Army prepared the 15-point agreement and its implementation was put-off till approval from an elected government.

"The incumbent government has no role in drafting the agreement," he said and added that the accord was placed before the ruling alliance at a briefing, which gave the go-ahead signal.

He suggested that all the political parties, religious groups and civil societies must be taken on board in a bid to combat the menace of terrorism and militancy collectively.

Sherpao, whose party remained loyal to Musharraf-led government to the last day in office, said President General (R) Pervez Musharraf had enjoyed absolute power during the last eight years, but now he needed to adjust with the new government if he wanted to continue as head of the state.

"It depends upon Musharraf as to how he accommodates with the new set-up, otherwise, he has other options as well," The News quoted Sherpao as saying without ‘explaining options’.

About the restoration of judges of the superior courts, the PPP-S leader said his party would support every step that moved for supremacy of the parliament. "But let the coalition partners agree on a unanimous decision in this regard, then we will decide our role," he said and questioned the dragging of the issue by the ruling alliance despite enjoying an absolute majority in the National Assembly.
