Shell’s Perdido plant starts productionOn Wednesday, the Royal Dutch Shell said that its newest unit in Perdido has started production. This is the world's deepest offshore drilling unit and is situated in the deep waters of Gulf of Mexico.

Talking about this, the President of Shell Co.'s US arm, Marvin Odum said that the company has been trying to look for newest venture so that it is able to provide continuous supply of oil and gas.

Perdido as a unit can produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day and can also produce 20 million cubic feet per day of natural gas. It is expected that the life of the unit is 20 years and it gathers its resources from the Great White, Tobago and Silvertip fields.

The launch has come just hours after President Obama said that the government is looking for expanding its offshore oil and gas drilling operations.

Odum said that it is a significant step forward and it is going to help US by getting gas and also improve its energy security.

Shell, as the operator would have 35 per cent stake in the project. The rest will be distributed between Chevron Corp and BP Plc.
