She was A Wonderful Mother, says Boyfriend of Woman Killed by Amoeba

The boyfriend of Elizabeth Marie Knight, 24-year-old woman killed by a brain eating amoeba, revealed how happy moments with Knight turned into tragedy. Her boyfriend, Eric Bowers, said Knight was a wonderful mother.

She spent some happy moments with her two children in the water, Bowers said. He still can’t believe that Knight is no more. He said Knight’s smile was just humongous. She had the ability to impress anyone, Bowers added.

According to Bowers, his girlfriend took her kids to Lake Murray over a week ago. She swam at a number of locations in Lake Murray with her kids. Quickly after that trip, Knight started complaining about severe headaches, Bowers said. A per Bowers, Knight visited the doctor, but even after taking medicine for the pain, the things kept getting worse.

As per Bowers, he saw her stumbling. Her legs were buckling, Bowers said. After that, she was taken to emergency room of a hospital. At that time, she was not able to control her body movements, Bowers added.

Just a few hours after, Knight died in the hospital. According to health officials, Knight’s case was extremely rare. Health Department Nurse Amber Marr said, “You get it through your nose. Basically you would have to have some contact with the amoeba through your nose and from there it attacks your brain”.

As per health experts, symptoms begin about five days after the exposure. Individual with the problem could have high fever, nausea and headache. An individual with severe symptoms can eventually go into coma.
