Seven Qaeda men, one Taliban among the dead in US air attacks in N. WaziristanPeshawar, Nov 8 : At least 13 persons were killed as suspected US drones fired two missiles at a house in North Waziristan Agency on Friday.

Though it was immediately not ascertained if there were any high-value targets among those killed, but it was confirmed that seven Al Qaeda operatives and a local Taliban commander died in the attack.

The missiles struck the house in Kamshaam areas of Razmak tehsil of the Agency in the morning. The house belonged to a tribesman Ghani Gul.

Friday’s attack was the first since Barack Obama’s election as president of the US and the installation of Gen David Petraeus as head of the US Central Command.

Latifur Rehman, a senior government official in the region, said that the missiles hit a ‘militant’ compound. “It was an accurate strike and the compound has been destroyed,” the Daily Times quoted Rehman as saying.

An intelligence official said: “It’s remote so information is coming slowly but we can confirm that four missiles killed eight Pakistani Taliban and five guests.”

A series of recent strikes against suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban hideouts in the Tribal Areas bordering Afghanistan have raised tensions between Washington and Islamabad. Last weekend, two separate strikes in North Waziristan and South Waziristan agencies had killed around 32 mainly Al Qaeda operatives. (ANI)
