Sensex Surges 163.77 Pts; FMCG, Auto Zoom
The Sensex regained strength in noon trade on account of buying action seen in FMCG and auto stocks on expectations of increased sales with the festive period kicking in.
All sectoral indices were trading in the green zone. The positive opening on the European stock exchanges also encouraged the overall reaction further.
At 2 p. m., Sensex, which opened the day after making a gain of 63.92 points at 16,805.22, surged 163.77 points to 16,905.07. The stock index also hit a high of 16,925.61 and a low of 16,763.78.
National Stock Exchange's Nifty stood at 5021.30, up 45.25 points after touching a high of 5025.70.
BSE Midcap and smallcap index gained 0.75% & 1.19% respectively.
The top gainers in the Sensex pack were HDFC, which gained 4.62%, Tata Motors 2.95%, ITC 2.48%, TCS (1.93%) and Hero Honda was trading up by 1.52%.
The losers' list comprised Bharti Airtel, which lost 2.7%, Sterlite Ind declined 0.91%, JP Asso fell 1.4%, Hindalco Ind dropped 1.27%.
Among overseas markets, the FTSE 100 surged 1.04%, DAX 30 zoomed 1.31% and CAC 40 climbed 1.04%.
