Sensex Opens Weak; Broader Indices Gain
The 30-share index Sensex belled the day on a dull note after a sell-off during the last trading session (Thursday, Oct 07).
Within minutes after opening at 20,297.58, the Sensex made some recovery (20,312.41) and got closer to its last closing figure at 20,315.32.
In contrast, the broad-based Nifty remained up by 0.6%at 6,123.75.
The BSE midcap was trading 0.34% higher and the BSE smallcap index 0.5% up.
On Thursday, the BSE Sensex declined 227.76 points to shut the shop 20,315.32.
The Nifty marked its closure at 6,120.30 after losing 66.15 points.
For the week ended 25th September, the food inflation dropped slightly to 16.24%.
On Thursday, the stocks, which topped the gainers' chart comprised Tata Power Company, Hero Honda Motors, Cipla, RCom, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel.
The losers' list consisted of Tata Steel, DLF, Rel Energy, HDFC, BHEL and JP Associates.
The BSE Mid and small caps fell 0.68% and 0.89% respectively.
The overall breadth of the stock market remained negative as it saw 1830 declinations and 1,213 advancements.
On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Career Point Infosystems led the value chart with a turnover of Rs 5,685.05 million.
