Sensex Opens Strong On Positive Global SignalsIndian equities opened on a bright note tracking hopeful worldwide signals.

Metal, consumer durables and realty stocks, among the severely hammered in recent weeks, were among the top gainers this morning.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index gained 2% and 1.86% respectively.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday celebrated Diwali at evening when the index posted a sharp 547-point gain taking back some eagerness among investors after last Friday’s slaughter.

As investors made token deals during the positive ‘muhurat’ trading for Samvat 2065, the Sensex, buoyed up by a jump in worldwide stock market, resumed the one-hour special trading session higher by 505.36 points at 9,014.92 over its last closure, halting a four-day free fall in the market.

Sectors including real estate, metal and capital goods were the major supporters.

The 30-share index BSE Sensex opened the day at 9,297.76, up 289.68, as against its last last closure in which it gained 498.52 points.

At 9:59 a.m., the 30-share index Sensex gained 270.02 points, or 3.00%, at 9,278.10, after touching a high of 9,297.76 and a low of 9,278.10.

In the meantime, the broad based Nifty stood at 2,721.50, up 36.90 points, after touching a high of 2,781.25 and a low of 2,685.30. (09.59 a.m.)

The overall breadth of the market breadth was positive as it saw 722 advancements as against 246 declinations.

The major gainers were Jaiprakash Associates, which gained 17.79%, Hindalco Industries rose 13.74%, Mahindra & Mahindra zoomed 12.90%, Reliance Energy climbed 12.20%, Wipro gained 12.04% and D L F profited 11.96%.

There were no losers at the 30-share index.
