Sensex Opens Lower On Global Worries, Increasing Oil Prices

Indian stocks opened on a lower note today (Sep 23) because of weak worldwide Sensex Opens Weak On Global Worries, Increasing Oil Pricesmarkets as fears on the long-term implications of the USD 700 billion bailout plan troubled capitalists. 

In the previous day session, the Sensex, which plunged to a low of 13,917.48, marked its closure at 13,994.96, down 47.36 points, while the NSE Nifty ended at 4223.05 with a loss of 22.20 points. The Nifty also touched an intra-day high of 4303.25 and an intr-day low of 4202.40.

At 09.59 a.m., the 30-share index Sensex lost 133.62 points at 13,861.34, after hitting a high of 13,878.73 and a low of 13,721.42.  

In contrast, the broad based Nifty stood at 4,181.10, down 41.95 points, after touching a high of 4,223.90 and a low of 4,142.00. 

The overall breadth of the market was negative. Out of the total 654 stocks traded at BSE, 146 climbed up, 494 went down whereas 14 remained unchanged.

The major gainers in the 30-share index were ACC, which gained 3.22%, Tata Steel surged 2.95%, I T C climbed 2.12%, Hindustan Unilever profited 1.69%, Bharti Airtel up 1.19% and Grasim Industries zoomed 1.04%.

The major losers in the Sensex Satyam Computer Services, which declined 4.69%, Jaiprakash Associates dropped 3.84%, Maruti Suzuki India fell 3.17%, Ranbaxy Laboratories lost 2.70%, Hindalco Industries sank 2.66% and Larsen & Toubro missed 2.60%.
