Sensex Hits 19K; Up 274.63 Pts
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange has gained over 274 points today to hit 19K level mark to join other strong Asian bourses.
Today, the BSE Sensex belled the trading session on a positive note at 18,845.31 as against its last closure at 18,799.66 on Thursday (Sep 09).
The Sensex stood at 19,074.29, up 274.63 points (1.46%) as against its last closure at 18,799.66.
Previously, the Sensex hit this level in Jan 2008.
On the other hand, the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty surged 1.36% to trade at 5,716.55.
The BSE midcap index surged 0.74% and the BSE smallcap index remained up by 0.94%.
Asian bourses were also trading on a positive note after China published its industrial output figures over the weekend. The data showed a stronger than expected 13.9% growth in the industrial yield. In the last week ended Sep 09, the Sensex registered a gin of 578.23 points on the back of strong global signs. Buying action across index pivotals assisted Sensex to hit 18,700 mark and Nifty above 5,600 levels during the week.
Among sectoral indices, real estate and FMCG gained 5% and 4% respectively.
In contrast teck, bankex, CG, PSU, automobile and power registered gains between 3 to 1%.
