Sensex gains 99 pts despite ‘Volatile Session’

bse sensexThe BSE-benchmarked Sensex managed to close in positive zone on Friday despite of its initial trading hour losses.

The BSE Sensex closed higher by 98.72 points at 14,422.73 while NSE Nifty ended up by 45.95 points at 4,292.95. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 14,479.82 and intraday low of 14,207.02.

Further, BSE Mid Caps and Small Caps Indices closed with gains of 117.50 and 126.63 points at 5,059.84 and 5,719.03 respectively.

The market today opened above the previous closing in line with other Asian markets. But, after few minutes of trading, it slipped lower on selling pressure. Further, worries regarding agricultural production due to uncertainty existing in monsoon fueled up the negative sentiment among investors.

However, the Indian market gathered most of momentum after mid session, cheering buying support and positive cues from the global markets.

On the sectoral front, Power, Consumer Durables, Pharma, Realty, Auto, Technology and Consumer Durables stocks contributed to most of the buying support. However, Bank stocks remained out of flavor.

The gainers from the BSE Sensex pack were JP Associates (6.01%), Sun Pharma (5.00%), TCS Ltd (4.33%), Tata Motors (4.20%), Grasim Industries (4.20%), ACC Ltd
(3.24%), Reliance Infra (2.88%), M&M Ltd (2.84%), Hindalco (2.76%), TCS Ltd (2.67%), ONGC Ltd (2.39%) and RCom (1.82%).

The losers from the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank (1.97%), HDFC (1.96%), ICICI Bank (1.16%), Sterlite Industries (1.00%), Reliance (0.79%) and Ranbaxy Lab (0.29%).
