Sensex Gains 608.14 Pts; Eyes 14K Mark

The 30-share index BSE Sensex, which opened with a gain of 448.23 points, at Sensex Gains 608.14 Pts; Eyes 14K Mark13,763.83 today, has moved further up north on account of heavy buying action witnessed across realty, IT, banking, oil & gas and power stocks. 

Midcap and Smallcap index gained more than 2% each. 

Among the sectoral indices, Realty was the major gainer, which climbed 7.45% followed by IT (6%), Bankex (5.14%), Oil & Gas (3.73%) and Power (3.41%).  

At 12.54 p.m., Sensex gained 608.14 points at 13,923.74. It also hit a high of 13,960.58 and a low of 13,674.96. 

In contrast, the broad based Nifty stood at 4,197.70, up 159.55 points. It touched a high of 4,212.90 and a low of 4,040.80. 

Despite the sharp recovery, total breadth of the market was negative on the BSE with only 676 stocks advancing against 1,944 declines. 

Total market breadth was sharply positive on the BSE with 1,777 advancements against 636 declinations.

Most active counters on the the 30-share index were DLF, which climbed 8.52%, Housing Development Finance Corporation surged 7.50%, Infosys Technologies zoomed 7.06%, ICICI Bank profited 6.54%, Tata Consultancy Services added 6.37% and Satyam Computer Services made 6.19%. 

The only loser in the Sensex was Mahindra & Mahindra, which declined 0.10%.
