Sensex Ends Above 20K Mark; Nifty At 6,018.30Indian equities recovered some earlier losses on the last trading day of the week ended on Sep 24.

On the back of strong foreign fund inflows that helped the 30-share index to get back to 20K mark and Nifty above 6,000 level.

On sectoral front, the scrips from real estate, FMCG and consumer durable led the gaining charts.

After a feeble beginning, the BSE Sensex gained momentum due to buying activity to finally end on a strong note after hitting an intraday peak of 20,071.75.

Finally, the Sensex surged 184.17 points (0.93%) at 20,045.18 and the broad based Nifty gained 58.75 points (0.99%) at 6,018.30.

The largest gainers in the Sensex included DLF, which increased by 5.18%, Hindustan Unilever Ltd surged 3.93%, Hero Honda Motors zoomed 3.85%, Bharti Airtel grew 3.56%, Maruti Suzuki India climbed 1.48% and Reliance Energy remained up by 1.44%.

In contrast, the major losers comprised Jindal Steel & Power, which dropped 1.19%, Sterlite Industries (India) slipped 0.23%, Tata Motors declined 0.17%, TCS fell 0.11% and Mahindra & Mahindra lost 0.05%.

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.04% and 1.05% respectively.

Among sectoral indices, the real estate surged 100.02 points; the FMCG index increased by 65.91 points; the Consumer Durables index grew by 103.99 points; the Bankex index zoomed 135.55 points.

The overall breadth of the stock market was positive as it saw 1,869 advancements as compared to 1,171 declinations.
