The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading on a weak note amid pessimistic Asian signals.

The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,476.85, stood at 17,497.96, down 36.13 points (0.21%) down from its previous close at 17,534.09.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broad-based Nifty stood at 5,249.85, down 0.18% as against its last closure at 5,256.15.

The BSE midcap index was trading 0.25% down and the BSE smallcap index 0.02% up.

Profit booking was witnessed across IT and telecom stock, whereas oil and gas shares saw some buying action.

On Tuesday (June 29), the Sensex ended 240.17 points down at 17,534.09 on account of profit booking at upper levels by local operators on weak movement in worldwide markets.

The Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange closed the day below 5300 mark at 5,256.15, down 77.35 points.
