Sensex Crawls Up After Weak StartThe 30-share index Sensex today entered into the green terrain after a weak opening and was trading 54 points up as against its last closure, about 30 minutes into trade.

The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,402.68, was ruling 54.71 points up at 17,496.15 from its previous close at 17,441.44.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broad-based Nifty stood at 5,249.35, up 0.26% as against its previous close.

Broader markets indices were also in the positive, with the BSE midcap index trading 0.4% up and the BSE smallcap index up a similar quantum.

On Monday, the Sensex ended the day at 17,441.44 after recording a gain of 19.51 points as trading volumes dropped following the "Bharat Bandh" called by opposition parties against the hike in fuel prices.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S and P CNX Nifty closed 0.2% down at 5,235.9. (With Inputs from Agencies)
