Sensex Closes Below 17500; Nifty At 5,227.6
The 30-share index Sensex on Friday marked its closure after shedding 48 points owing to selling pressure witnessed across metals and capital goods stocks.
The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,523.47, ended at 17,460.95, down 48.38 as against its last closure at 17,509.33.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broad-based Nifty ended the day at 5,227.6, 0.45% lower than its last closure at 5,251.4.
The BSE midcap index ended flat and the BSE smallcap index 0.25% higher.
Metals, capital goods, realty, energy and auto scrips witnessed selling activity.
The overall market breadth remained positive as it saw 1,445 advancements as against 1,430 declinations.
The top gainers on the Sensex were TCS, NTPC and Hindalco.
The losers' list comprised Sterlite, M&M, BHEL, and Infosys.
The Japanese Nikkei shut the shop 0.13% up at 9,203.71, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng caught up with other losing peers, after a one-day break Thursday, to close 1.11% down at 19,905.32.
The South Korean Kospi ended 0.86% down at 1,671.82.
In Britain, the benchmark index FTSE 100 was ruling 0.75% up at 4,841.89, whereas the French CAC 40 was trading 0.45% up at 3,354.99.
The German DAX was up 0.28% at 5,873.93. (With Inputs from Agencies)
