The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened weak at 16,760.6, climbed up into the green zone, about an hour into trade.

The Sensex stood at 16,870.5 after surging 89.43 points (0.53%) from its previous close at 16,781.07.

Meanwhile, the broad-based Nifty was ruling at 5,063.5, up 0.59% from its last closure.

Broader markets indices were trading in the green terrain.

The BSE midcap index gained 1.15% and the BSE smallcap index was up by 1.17%.

On Monday (June 07), the Sensex ended the day below the 17k mark at 16,781.07 after registering a hefty loss of 336.62 points on account of huge selling activity by FIIs following weak global cues.

Nifty index of National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended below the 5,100 mark at 5,034.00 after losing 101.50 points.

All the sectoral indices closed negatively with metal and realty sectors being the worst performers. Respective indices declined around 4%.

Among the others, oil and gas, capital goods, auto, bank, IT and power indices fell between 1.7 and 2 per cent.
