SC asks Subramanian Swamy to move High Court on his plea against AirAsia
The Supreme Court of India on Friday suggested senior politician Subramanian Swamy to take his plea challenging government's approval for proposed low-cost carrier AirAsia India to High Court.
A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice B S Chauhan and Justice S A Bobde said that the apex court wasn't making any observation on the matter's merits and that his grievances would be addressed better in the High Court.
Mr. Swami was also suggested that he should not waste any time to move the High Court as every thing regarding the proposed airline is ready.
The bench said, "We want to have the advantage of the high court judgement. We are at this moment not on the merits. every thing is ready. Don't take time to go to the High Court."
However, the bench gave Mr. Swamy the liberty to file a PIL (public interest litigation) in the High court.
A proposal for setting up AirAsia India has already gained approval from the government's Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), but Mr. Swami is arguing that the FIPB has no powers approve greenfield projects.
AirAsia India is a proposed joint venture among Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia, Tata Group and Telestra Tradeplace.
