Sanwer under curfew for second day over communal clash

Sanwer (Madhya Pradesh), Nov 13: Curfew continued for the second day in the town of Sanwer near Indore following clashes between two communities in which at least three people were killed and another two were injured.

Reportedly, a few cyclists from two communities entered into a tussle on Indore Road on Monday morning, which later snowballed into clashes.

Violence also broke out at a tea stall over some trivial matter.

The police caned and also fired tear gas shells on different occasions to disperse the mob that indulged in stone pelting. At least 16 people have been detained.

"I assure you that the problem is over, we will punish the guilty. Initially the trouble seemed to be bigger and hence the police handled it strictly. We have spoken to the leaders of both the groups and other religious elders and the matter is solved, " said Vivek Agarwal, District Magistrate of Indore.

Police believe the clashes may have been instigated by groups as a prelude to the Sanwer legislative constituency by-elections, which is scheduled for December 12. (ANI)
