S.M. Krishna to return to active politics

Mumbai, Mar 5: Former Karnataka Chief Minister S. M. KrishnaFormer Karnataka Chief Minister S. M. Krishna is likely to resign as Maharashtra’s Governor and return to active politics in his home state.

According to sources, the Congress leadership has cleared Krishna’s plans for his return in an attempt to revive its fortune in the state.

Though it is not clear what Krishna's role would be, his return to Karnataka politics could have a huge impact on state affairs. Krishna's urbane image might help the Congress in May Assembly polls.

SM Krishna left state politics after the 2004 Assembly Elections, when the Congress was forced to form a coalition with the JD(S) to stay in power.

On Tuesday, a full bench of the Election Commission met senior political leaders of the state to assess the situation in the run up to the polls.

Karnataka has been under Governor’s Rule since November 2007 and constitutionally, elections are to be held by May 2008. (ANI)
