Officials have informed that the death toll from two explosions Saturday at a West Siberian coal mine has risen to 43.

A spokesman for the local emergencies ministry told RIA Novosti, "The death toll has climbed to 43. Forty-seven people are still missing."

More than 70 people were injured by the two blasts, separated by about four hours, at the Raspadskaya coal mine near Mezhdurechensk.

RIA Novosti further reported that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin arrived in the region Tuesday and plans to visit the injured miners in the hospital. Later, he will tour the accident site and review recovery operations.

Search-and-rescue workers must explore nearly 200 miles of tunnels to find the missing workers, Russian Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu said. (With Inputs from Agencies)
