On Thursday, Engineering firm Siemens Ltd received Rs 212 crore order from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) in order to offer a power distribution package at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Orissa.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company confirmed, "The scope of work for Siemens' industrial solution division, which has bagged the Rs 212-crore order, includes designing, engineering, supply, civil work, erection, testing and commissioning of transmission lines and substations."

Siemens, as part of the contract, would offer an extra high-voltage power distribution package to the RSP, with the aim to augment its existing as well as installation of substations.

Siemens Executive Vice President Industry Solutions Robert Wagner said in a statement, "This order further reaffirms the edge that our products and solutions have in the power distribution market."

Rourkela Steel Plant via this program will be able to increase its production capacity from 1.9 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes.
