RPF taken over by IPS Vijay Kumar
K. Vijay Kumar, 58, Director, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, shall be the new Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquartered located in the capital, reliable sources stated that on Saturday.
He substitutes Vikram Srivastava, who had been posted and transferred as Director of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) as substitute of Prasun Mukherjee, who got retired from the services on September 30.
Mr. Srivastava, handled the charge in February this year had to face up disapproval in the contest of the Dantewada massacre in Chhattisgarh on April 6 wherein 75 CRPF jawans had been slaughtered down by Maoists.
Mr. Vijay Kumar, a 1975-batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, is predictable to hold his charge of the new task on Wednesday. He is currently the first IPS officer in the State who has been awarded by the President's Police Medal for Gallantry.
Mr. Vijay Kumar came in to the lime light when he headed the Special Task Force (STF) operations in opposition to the dreaded forest bandit Veerappan and his connections, those who were slaughtered down by him in October
2004.
