Aboard the two-stage Terrier-Improved Malemute suborbital sounding rocket, experiments developed by community college and undergraduate university students will be launched. from Virginia's Eastern Shore on Tuesday.

The experiments have been developed through the RockSat-X program. The rocket is scheduled to be launched between 6am and 10 am from NASA's Wallops Island Flight Facility. If the launch could not take place on the mentioned day then the next three days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have been kept as backup launch days.

Experts have affirmed that thundershowers have been predicted for Tuesday and may lead to postpone of the launch to Wednesday. The UH Community College team is the only community college whose Project Imua scientific payload has been selected for the launch.

"The UV spectrometer payload that me and my team have been working on for the past year is on-board this rocket. And it's just really cool to think that it's getting so close to taking its journey into space", said Community College student Nick Herrmann.

NASA has given them a grant of $500,000 and time-period of two years to carry out the project, which was a joint faculty-student initiative. Sixteen students involved in the project were from Kauai Community College, Honolulu Community College, Kapiolani Community College and Windward Community College.

The experiment developed by them aims to assess the intensity of the sun's ultraviolet radiation before it enters earth's atmosphere.
