Renault in hunt for another local partner

Renault-LoganThe French automaker is in talks with several Indian companies to finalise a local partner for its entry into the electric car market. Notably, Renault exited its JV with the Indian auto major Mahindra & Mahindra last month due to a poor response to the Logan in the domestic market.

However, the company is now firming up plans to enter the electric car market and is in the process of finalising the partner. Sources confirm that the company has been talking to various auto companies including, possibly, the country's only electric car maker Reva.

Renault's official spokesperson confirmed the development as he said that the company was looking at the EV platform but its entry is still subject to the government support to roll out a proper EV product.

As far as the Renault's Electric vehicle portfolio is concerned, the offerings are very impressive indeed. Be it the Kangoo intra-city goods mover, Zoe mid-sized sedan, or the Twizy two-seater concept car, all of them have proved their mettle in the global markets.

It may be noted here that Renault is working with several technology institutes in the country to develop batteries to empower such products in India.
