Bangkok - Cambodian soldiers fired on Thai soldiers, wounding two, Wednesday afternoon along the disputed border, according to Thai TV reports from the area.

The Cambodian side opened fire at 2:25 pm and allegedly injured two Thai soldiers, according to the reports, which have not been confirmed by the Thai Foreign Ministry or the army.

The incident reportedly occurred 3 kilometres away from Phreah Vihear, an 11th century Hindu temple that has been the cause of many border disputes between the two neighbouring countries for almost five decades.

Barcelona  - The disappearance of whole species is an irreversible problem that is worse than the ongoing financial crisis, reported the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as it closed a world conference in Barcelona Tuesday.

Kota, Oct 14 : Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has said that India will achieve 35 percent electricity generation from nuclear power plants by 2050 after the signing of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal.

The nuclear deal has opened the doors of opportunity for India to set up nuclear power plants to meet its energy requirements, Kakodkar told reporters here.

Approval has been accorded for construction of seventh and eighth units at the nuclear power plant facility in Rajasthan, he said.

London, Oct. 14 : The British Ministry of Defence has confirmed that up to two million records of potential armed forces recruits have gone missing.

Last week the Ministry of Defence said a computer hard drive with the private details of 100,000 members of Army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel, of all ranks, had gone missing from the premises of contractor EDS in Hook, Hampshire.

New Delhi, Oct 14 : The Sixth Council meeting of the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) will begin here tomorrow.

This is for the first time that the council meeting is being organised outside its headquarter in China.

India being chair of the council session is hosting the Sixth Council Session. This meeting will provide guidance for future thrust of INBAR activities. INBAR has 34 member countries at present, which include 13 in Africa, 10 in Asia, 10 in America and one in Oceania.
