Washington, Mar 2: A new study, conducted on mice, has found that compounds extracted from green vegetables like broccoli and cabbage could be a potent drug against melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

The study found that these compounds, when combined with selenium, target tumours more safely and effectively than conventional therapy.

"There are currently no drugs to target the proteins that trigger melanoma," said Gavin Robertson, associate professor of pharmacology, pathology and dermatology, Penn State College of Medicine.

Washington, Mar 2: Tennis legend Boris Becker is all set to exchange wedding vows with his girlfriend Sharlely "Lilly" Kerssenberg on June 12.

In an interview for a German TV show, the three-times Wimbledon champion revealed that he and his girlfriend were planning to wed in St. Moritz, Switzerland, the swank ski resort town.

Washington, Mar 2: Chairman US Joint Chiefs Admiral Mike Mullen said that the drone attacks inside Pakistan’s tribal areas targeting al Qaeda and Taliban militants were part of the Obama Administration’s policy.

Asked if two suspected missile strikes were proof that President Barack Obama was escalating US attacks on al-Qaeda and Taliban militants in Pakistan, Admiral Mullen said: “Well, I’m not going to talk a lot about our operations specifically.”

Washington, Mar 2: Childhood sleep problems that persist through adolescence may adversely affect cognitive abilities, according to a new study.

The study led by Dr. Naomi Friedman, senior research associate at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, showed that children whose sleep problems persisted across development had poorer executive functioning at age 17, compared with those whose problems decreased to a greater extent.

Washington, Mar 1 : Isla Fisher has said that her fiance Sacha Baron Cohen is the perfect dad, because he makes their young daughter break into fits of laughter.

Isla, who still hasn't decided upon a wedding date, gave birth to Olive in October 2007.

And she is so delighted to see Cohen take to fatherhood that she can't stop raving about his parenting skills.
