London, Oct. 10 : British prison officers fear that Muslim inmates are turning to extremism.

According to The Times, prison officers at Whitemoor Jail fear growing radicalisation and conversions among the 395 inmates, of whom almost one third were Muslims.

On one wing at the jail staff admitted that Muslim inmates "policed themselves", the report said.

One inmate claimed to inspectors that inmates are converting to Islam because they want protection and that Muslim gangs in the jail provide it.

Anne Owers, the chief inspector of prisons, has urged the prison service to do more to provide staff throughout the jail system but particularly in the top security prisons with help to deal with increasing Muslim numbers.

According to The Times, sensitive details of the family members of personnel were also among the data stored, including bank details and passport numbers.

Church says prayers in demand to calm finance fears

London - The Church of England has found that an increasing number of people turn to its prayer website for support in the current global financial crisis, the church said Friday.

A Church of England website focusing on advice to those concerned about rising personal debt had seen a 70-per-cent increase in traffic in recent weeks, the church's own website said.

The number of web users looking up the page for the daily prayer had grown by 25 per cent, with one addressing the financial turmoil proving especially popular, the church website said.

The prayer had been viewed nearly 8,000 times since it was published online in September.

Google Earth’s new satellite sends its first imageLondon, October 10 : Google Earth’s new satellite, GeoEye-1, has provided a high resolution picture of Pennsylvania-based Kutztown University campus, which also happens to be its first picture.

The satellite took the picture on Tuesday when it was in a 423-mile-high orbit over the East Coast of the U. S.

"We expect the quality of the imagery to be even better as we continue the calibration activity," the Telegraph quoted Brad Peterson, GeoEye''s vice president of operations, as saying.

Butcher in the dock for chopping meat ''too loudly''!

London, Oct 10 : A traditional butcher has been banned from chopping meat in the morning because tenants in flats above his shop find it disturbingly loud.

Brian Clapton stated that he has no option but to chop and prepare the meat in the morning itself in order to run his business.

"We start early because we are a traditional butcher''s,” The Telegraph quoted Clapton, as saying.

Clapton, who has been running his Brian’s Meat Store business since 13 years was demanded in November 2007 to stop chopping the meat between 6am to 8am on the weekdays and till 9 am on the weekends or make the property sound proof.
