Faridkot, Oct 6 : Baba Farid, a 12th century Sufi saint, is described by many as the first major Punjabi poet. He is known to have once performed penance for 40 days at Mokhalpur and impressed the King.

Faridkot city was later named after him.

A large number of devotees from far off places recently converged here to attend the annual Baba Farid fair marking the saint''s arrival day with faith and fervor.

Tilla Baba Farid'' in Faridkot is the place where Baba Farid stayed and did his penance in the 13th century.

Amritsar, October 6 : Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), the premiere governing body of Sikhs, has today sent a delegation of nearly 100 Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan to attend the 474th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ram Das, the 4th great Guru of Sikhs.

This is for the first time since partition of India that a delegation of Sikhs is visiting Pakistan especially for birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ram Das. The devotees will mark the occasion at Gurdwara Chuna Mandi, the birthplace of Guru Ram Dass, situated in Lahore on October 9.

Chandigarh, Oct. 6 : Punjab has emerged as one of the favourite investment destinations of the country, following connectivity to other places and other advantages.

To attract more investors to the State, the Punjab government has asked the Centre to prepare a blueprint, which factors in the natural potential of the state.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry recently conducted a survey with Konard Adenaeur Foundation on `State Level Reforms – Increasing Investment in Punjab’.

The report has suggested reorganization of State’s infrastructure.

Punjab government has already requested the Centre to announce an industrial package for the State.
