Sankararaman murder case hearing adjourned

Kanchi SankaracharyasPuducherry, Sept 24 : A Puducherry Sessions Court today adjourned the hearing in the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Sankaracharyas, Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi are the main accused to October 24.

When the case came for hearing today before the principal District and Sessions judge D. Krishnaraja, 14 accused including the two seers were absent .Separate petitions citing the reasoning for their absence were filed by the counsel.

V. Vaidhilingam sworn-in as Puducherry CM

V. Vaidhilingam to be sworn in as Puducherry CM todayPuducherry, Sept 4 : V. Vaidhilingam was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry here today. This is his second stint as the State CM, the first being 1991-96.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Raj Bhawan.

Lt. Governor Govind Singh Gurjar administered the oath of office and secrecy to him along with five other ministers -- E. Valslaraj, Shahjahan, Malladikrishnarao, Kandasamy and Namasivayam.

Lt. Governor Govind Singh Gurjar will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him along with five other ministers.

The formation of a new ministry became necessary as N Rangasamy stepped down as Chief Minister on August 28 following sustained revolt by a majority of the ten Congress legislators, including five ministers of his six-member cabinet, against him.

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy resigns

N RangaswamyPuducherry Aug 28 : Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy resigned on Thursday, following a revolt by his cabinet colleagues against his leadership.

Rangaswamy tendered his resignation to Lieutenant Governor Govind Singh Gurjar at the Raj Nivas apparently on the directions from the Congress High Command.

After accepting his resignation, the Governor said that he would forward the resignation letter to President Pratibha Patil for acceptance and asked Rangaswamy to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made.

V Arumugham, Additional District Judge, adjourned the proceedings after Judge of Puducherry K Shanmugham informed the Judge that the territorial government had apprised the Supreme Court of the process of appointment of the Public Prosecutor for the case.

Earlier, the Principal and District Sessions Judge of Puducherry, D Krishnaraja, had adjourned the hearing of the case in view of the pendency of a petition filed by Jayendra Saraswathi in the Supreme Court, challenging the continuation of the Special Public Prosecutor of Tamil Nadu even after the case was transferred in Puducherry.
