Jerusalem- A United Nations report released Friday said that earlier this week Israeli forces repeatedly shelled a home to which the UN had evacuated about 110 Palestinians in the Zeitoun area of Gaza City, killing around 30 people.

The Israeli military said it had no immediate comment.

"We received eyewitness accounts from several survivors," said Allegrea Pacheco, the deputy head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Beirut - A Hamas representative on Friday said the Islamist Palestinian movement was not concerned with the United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"The failure of Israel in achieving its goals in the Gaza war led to this resolution, but we stress that no one has consulted us," Ousama Hamdan, who represents Hamas in Lebanon, said.

Ramallah - Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad dismissed Thursday speculation that President Mahmoud Abbas would heed demands from Hamas and step down from the presidency since his term of office expires on January 8.

"The conditions for a vacancy in the presidency has not yet been met, and this ends the discussions from the legal aspect," he told a news conference in Ramallah.

London, Jan 8 : Israeli warplanes responded to Hizbollah rocket strikes in its territories within minutes by bombing the suspected launch sites, raising fears of the Gaza conflict spreading across the region.

There were unconfirmed reports that five Israelis had been injured in the blasts. Experts said at least three katyusha rockets landed in Israel.

The attack raised fears of the conflict spreading and the very dramatic prospect of a northern front being opened up in Israel while its armed forces are still heavily engaged in the south of the country on operation Cast Lead, the assault on Gaza.

Tel Aviv  -  Palestinian militants fired mortar shells from the UN school in northern Gaza which was shelled by Israel and which killed more than 46 civilians, a military spokesman in Tel Aviv charged.

He said Israeli ground troops stationed on the outskirts of the Jabaliya refugee camp responded by firing mortar shells in the direction of the militants.

"This is not the first time that Palestinian militants have fired from within UN schools," he said.
