More checks on postings, says Army Chief

Jammu and Kashmir MapPahalgam (J-K)/Bangalore, Nov 12 : In the backdrop of the arrest of an army officer in connection to the Malegaon blasts, Army Chief Deepak Kapoor said on Wednesday that army would put in place more checks on postings and connectivities.

Kapoor was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Over 3,000 pilgrims leaving for Holy Amarnath Cave

Amarnath Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir), June 18 : After a night stay at Noonvan camp at Pahalgam, 3,827 Amarnath pilgrims began their pilgrimage to the holy shrine early this morning amidst tight security.

The pilgrims will take next halt at Chandanwadi camp.

Security forces have been put on a high alert along the entire route of the Amarnath yatra to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

The security setup consists of area domination and setting up of mountain posts by Army, deployments of central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and mobile patrolling by armed police.

Arun Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Amarnath Shrine Board said that all arrangements for the 48-kilometer pilgrimage trek to the hilltop cave shrine at Amarnath have been put in place and security has been tightened to avoid any untoward incident.

"The area leading to Amarnath has been sanitized and the security personnel are taking adequate measures to avoid any untoward incident," said Arun Kumar.

" We are expecting that this year we will have a sizable ice lingam in there so that the people will come and have good look this year. Last year the pilgrims faced a problem because the ice lingam had melted,” said Manzoor Bhat, Station House Officer (SHO), Pahalgam.
