With the unceasing violence taking place in Orissa and Karanataka, Railway Oscar, Lalu Resolves To Take Up Orissa Issue In The CabinetMinister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes have resolved to take up the issue before the Cabinet meeting which is scheduled to take place on Friday.

The matter needs to be reviewed and some concrete measures have to be taken before it gets worse. With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh citing the attacks on Christians in the States of Orissa and Karanataka as “acts of national shame” and the issue being aggravated, reaching a solution will be given a priority at the Meeting.

One dead in Hindu-Christian clashes in India

Orissa, IndiaNew Delhi  - A woman was killed and more than a dozen people injured in renewed violence Tuesday in India's eastern state of Orissa, where clashes between Hindus and Christians have claimed 30 lives in the past month, news reports said.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during a visit to France, condemned the violence and instructed the Orissa government to maintain law and order.

Local news outlets reported that mobs set fire to more than 100 Christian homes and a church in three different places in the central district of Kandhamal.

Orissa Kandhamal (Orissa), Sept 30: At least three people were killed and several were injured when the police opened fire to disperse the violent mob in Orissa’s Kandhmal District today.

Police opened fire when a 500-strong mob of women attacked the Raikia police station demanding release of two tribals arrested in connection with communal riots.

According to sources, the local tribals have blocked all roads to Raikia by placing logs of trees and boulders to prevent entry of additional police forces.

On Monday, a dead body was found floating in a river near Raikia region of Orissa.

According to reports, the body is allegedly of a Christian man who had gone missing after the communal clashes, which broke out on Friday.

Though no fresh incidents of violence have been reported from the Kandhamal, situation continues to be tense and security forces have been deployed to restore peace in the area.
