Court upholds Mumbai ATS’s decision to invoke MCOCA in Malegaon case

Malegaon-BlastMumbai, Jan 22, : A special MCOCA court on Thursday gave its nod to Mumbai Police' Anti-terrorist Squad to invoke Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the 11 arrested accused in the Malegaon blast case by stating that there was prima facie evidence against them of having aided and conspired to commit criminal activities.

The special MCOCA court took cognizance of the 4000-page chargesheet filed in the case observing that invoking MCOCA was valid in the case.

The eleven accused includes Lt. Col Prasad Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

Shiv Sena attacks Pune theatre, stops screening of Kannada

Maharashtra MapPune, Jan. 21 : Agitated over an attack on Marathi speaking people in Karnataka, Shiv Sena activists stopped the screening of a Kannada film here on Wednesday.

They also damaged the property of the Ratan Chitra Mandir, which was screening the film.

Tension first surfaced on January 16, during the Karnataka Assembly session in Belgaum, which borders Maharashtra. The BJP Government banned a parallel legislature assembly session by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES), which led to a war of words between leaders of both states.

Malegaon blast case chargesheet filed

Malegaon AccusedMumbai, Jan 20 : Maharashtra Police, on Tuesday, filed a chargesheet in connection with the Malegaon blast case before a Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) court as the joint custody of the eleven accused came to an end.

The court had to hear the bail application of the five main alleged perpetrators in the September 29 Malegaon blasts, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt Col S P Purohit, who was working with Military Intelligence, Ajay Rahirkar, Shivnarayan Kalsangra and Sham Sahu.

The MCOCA court had earlier remanded all eleven accused till January 20 to judicial custody.

Oil PSU strike hampering flights, fuel delivery schedulesMumbai, Jan. 8 : The strike called by officials of state-run oil firms in the country is affecting the aviation industry badly.

On Thursday, around a dozen flights were delayed for between 45 minutes to an hour, leaving several passengers stranded at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

Passengers were harried and troubled as they waited for their flights.

Expressing anger at the state of affairs, some of the passengers said the strike should be called off immediately.

He further said," Sadhvi Pragya Singh, Lt Col P S Purohit, arrested in connection with the Malegaon blast, have been victimized. What was their fault? Something had to be done to take on fanatic Muslims."
