London - Captain John Terry struck an 85th-minute winner as England maintained their 100-per-cent record in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Ukraine.

Peter Crouch put England ahead after 28 minutes, but with 16 minutes remaining Shevchenko stabbed in the equaliser.

Crouch probably would not have played but for injuries to Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole, but when the chance came, he pounced to score his 15th goal in 33 internationals.

London  - US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev moved to open a new chapter in relations between their two nations Wednesday by agreeing to draw up a new deal on nuclear disarmament.

At a meeting in London ahead of Thursday's summit of Group of 20 (G20) leading world economies, both presidents pledged to "move further along the path of reducing and limiting strategic offensive arms," in a joint statement issued after their first meeting since Obama's inauguration.

The leaders of the world's big economies launched a summit on the global economic crisis in London Wednesday with a dinner at the residence of the meeting's host, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and a reception at Buckingham Palace.

"We are within a few hours, I think, of agreeing on a global plan for economic recovery and reform," said Brown ahead of the summit's formal sessions of the Group of 20 (G20) leading industrialized nations and major emerging economies on Thursday.

London  - Eight oil workers died and a further eight remained missing after an oil platform helicopter crashed into the North Sea off the coast of Scotland Wednesday.

"We may look at all 16 souls lost," said Scotland's regional government leader, Alex Salmond, describing the accident as an "awful tragedy."

Earlier, police in the port city of Aberdeen confirmed that eight bodies had been recovered and another eight remained unaccounted for.

London  - Violent anti-globalization protests Wednesday overshadowed the Group of 20 (G20) summit in London as campaigners vandalized banks and clashed with heavily-armed riot police.

Some 4,000 protestors, shouting "hang a banker" and "storm the banks" converged on the Bank of England and later vandalized the London headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

London  - Barack and Michelle Obama went to Buckingham Palace to have tea with Queen Elizabeth II Wednesday after the US President declared himself to be a fan of the 82-year-old monarch.

"There is one thing I should mention that I love about Great Britain and that's the queen," said the 47-year-old President hours before his armour-plated limousine pulled up at the palace.

"I think in the imagination of people throughout America, what the queen stands for, her decency and her civility and what she represents is very important."
