Shutdown begins in Jammu over Amarnath Shrine Board’s land issue

Jammu,Jammu and Kashmir June 30: A shutdown called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is being observed in Jammu today against the politicisation of the issue of allotment of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.

On Sunday, after withdrawing support to the Congress-led coalition in the state, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) questioned the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to transfer forestland to Amarnath Shrine Board.

The government's decision of transferring 40 acres of forestland to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has triggered large-scale protests and violence in the state.

Amarnath pilgrimage commences on WednesdayJammu, June 28 : The Amarnath Yatra resumed today a day after it was suspended in the wake of continued strike in Kashmir Valley to resolve the issue over the transfer of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

Authorities today allowed a fresh batch of 4,105 pilgrims to leave in a convoy of 126 vehicles for the Amarnath cave shrine from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.

According to official sources, the devotees, including 1034 women and 193 children, left at around 6:15 a. m.

India regrets OIC Kashmir issue comment

Jammu & KashmirNew Delhi, June 27: The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed its regret over a statement issued by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on Jammu and Kashmir.

Describing Kashmir as an internal matter of the country, the ministry said that OIC Council of Foreign Ministers has no locus standi in this and other matters concerning India’s internal affairs.

The OIC had commented on Jammu and Kashmir and India’s internal affairs in Declaration and Resolutions adopted by it at its 35th session held at Kampala, Uganda between June 18 and 20.

Jammu, June 26: A shutdown is being observed in Jammu today against the politicisation of allotment of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.

On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that an all-party meeting has been convened to find solution to the issue.

"'There will be no constructions on that land until we arrive at a consensus," said Azad.

Azad also appealed to the people and the media to help in maintaining peace and harmony in the state.

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has recently transferred nearly 40 hectares of forestland in Baltal area to the Shri Amarnath-ji Shrine Board (SASB) for 23.1 million rupees.
