Kashmir unrest: Three more protesters killed in BandiporaSrinagar, Aug 12 : Three protesters were killed and five injured this morning in police firing at Bandipora, about 65 kms from here, even as curfew continued for the second day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar District.

The Kashmir Valley continues to be restive following a senior Hurriyat Conference leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s death in police firing on Monday during a protest march moving towards Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) over the Amarnath land row.

Future tense in curfew-bound SrinagarSrinagar, Aug 12 : With curfew clamped in the entire Srinagar district, the Valley continues to be tense following a senior Hurriyat Conference leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s death in police firing on Monday during a protest march towards Muzaffarabad, the Capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) over the Amarnath land row.

The Army has been kept on standby in the Valley with the situation becoming tense.

Curfew was first imposed in Srinagar city, but later clamped in the entire district after authorities feared trouble over the death of the Hurriyat leader.

Police disperse Kashmir mobs with tear gas, water cannons

Srinagar, India  - Police fired in the air and used rubber pellets, tear gas, water cannons and batons to disperse thousands of protestors in the streets of towns in the northern Indian state Jammu and Kashmir Monday, officials and witnesses said.

The demonstrators, mostly fruit growers, were attempting to march towards Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administrated Kashmir to protest what they called the "economic blockade" of the Kashmir valley by Hindu activists in the southern Jammu district.

Kashmir, a disputed region between India and Pakistan, is divided into two parts, one administered by Pakistan and the other by India.

All-party meet assesses situation over Amarnath land row

The meeting was attended by Arun Jaitley (BJP), Amar Singh (Samajwadi Party), former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and Saif-ud-din Soz and Mohsina Kidwai (both Congress), besides the local Kashmiri leaders.

Poonch under curfew following communal clashesDoda (Jammu and Kashmir), August 9 : A major tragedy was averted in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday after security forces diffused two Improvised Explosive Devices.

Acting on a tip off, troops of Eight Rashtriya Rifles and Doda police cordoned off Doda Bharat road and detected explosives with the help of sniffer dogs and metal detectors.

“A big damage was possible if any security vehicle had passed the device,” said Mohan Lal, Superintendent of Police, operations.
