Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service resumes

Srinagar, Aug 21 : The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service between India and Pakistan, which was suspended last week due to violent protests over the Amarnath land transfer, resumed here today.

According to official sources, 61 passengers today left for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Out of the 61, 58 were returning home to Muzaffarabad.

The fortnightly bus service would also ply on August 28 according to schedule, the sources added.

Violence erupts in Jammu over shrine row

Jammu & KashmirJammu, August 20 : Hindu activists demanding restoration of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) went on rampage in parts of Jammu on Wednesday.

Authorities in Jammu region and Kashmir valley in the State re-imposed curfew today following violent protests in various parts on Tuesday evening.

Defying curfew protesters clashed with security personnel, seized vehicles and set them on fire. A police post in Janipur area of the city was rampaged and then set ablaze.

A private car of a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was also burned by the protesters.

407 fruit trucks left Srinagar whereas 755 load carriers arrived today

Government says over 500 carriers with essentials have entered SrinagarSrinagar, Aug 20 : As many as 407 trucks laden with fresh fruit left the Srinagar Valley for Jammu and other parts of the country during lat 24 hours where as during the same period 755 trucks carrying essential commodities and fuel entered the valley from Jammu.

Curfew re-imposed in Kashmir after protests Srinagar, Kashmir - A fresh curfew was ordered in the Jammu region of India-administered Kashmir following demonstrations and clashes between protestors and security forces, officials said Wednesday.

Violent protests erupted in Jammu city Tuesday evening as hundreds of Hindus demonstrated against the state government revoking a decision to allot land to the popular Hindu Amarnath pilgrimage shrine.

Security forces fired in the air and lobbed tear-gas shells to disperse angry mobs which assaulted the police and pelted them with stones.

MK Narayanan to visit J-K today

National Security Advisor MK NarayananSrinagar, Aug 20: National Security Advisor MK Narayanan will arrive here today on a day-long visit to take stock of the ongoing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, in the aftermath of the controversy over the Amarnath land transfer.

The visit comes two days after thousands of protestors marched past the UN office in Srinagar demanding the international body's intervention to resolve the issue.
