Kabul - A French soldier of the international force in Afghanistan was killed in a mine explosion in Kabul Saturday, military sources said.

Afghanistan wants more NATO troops, but only for border areas

Kabul - With countries like the US and other NATO alliance indicating they will send more troops to war-torn Afghanistan, Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta said Saturday his country would accept extra foreign troops only if they were deployed to border areas and places controlled by insurgents.

Spanta Afghan Foreign Affairs Minister told a press conference on Saturday in Kabul that it was not "acceptable" for Afghanistan to see large swath of the country controlled by Taliban insurgents and other opposition groups despite the presence of some 70,000 international forces.

Attacks, bombing leave nine Afghan civilians, 14 insurgents dead Kabul  - US-led coalition forces killed one civilian and 14 insurgents in southern and western Afghanistan while two children were killed by a roadside bomb and six civilians died in an attack on a wedding party, officials said Saturday.

The children died Saturday in Khost, the capital of the south-eastern province of the same name, when a roadside bomb targeting two Afghan security vehicles detonated, provincial police chief Mohammad Yaqoub said.

Fifteen civilians were also wounded, Yaqoub said.

Four Afghan civilians, four insurgents killed in separate attacks

Kabul  - A suicide attack in southern Afghanistan left four civilians dead and wounded four soldiers Friday. In separate incidents, four insurgents were killed and eight arrested in operations in the north and east of the country.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden vehicle in front of an Afghan army base in the Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province on Friday, killing four civilians and wounding four soldiers from the Afghan army, Gulob Shah Alikhail, the deputy provincial governor said.

He said that four dead civilians were daily-wage workers, who were queuing to enter the base when the attack took place.

Afghanistan & NATOKabul- A suicide bomber attacked a NATO base in eastern Afghanistan Thursday, wounding two NATO soldiers and four Afghan nationals, while nine insurgents were killed after they attacked a district governor, officials said.

The bomber attacked a NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) base in the Sabari district of the south-eastern province of Khost, an ISAF spokesman said.

An unmanned U. S. Predator aircraft fired at least two missiles early Wednesday at a house near north Waziristan, one of seven semi-autonomous tribal territories that line Pakistan''s border with Afghanistan.
