Srinagar, Aug 12 : Three protesters were killed and five injured this morning in police firing at Bandipora, about 65 kms from here, even as curfew continued for the second day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar District.

The Kashmir Valley continues to be restive following a senior Hurriyat Conference leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s death in police firing on Monday during a protest march moving towards Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) over the Amarnath land row.

Srinagar, Aug 12 : With curfew clamped in the entire Srinagar district, the Valley continues to be tense following a senior Hurriyat Conference leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s death in police firing on Monday during a protest march towards Muzaffarabad, the Capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) over the Amarnath land row.

The Army has been kept on standby in the Valley with the situation becoming tense.

Curfew was first imposed in Srinagar city, but later clamped in the entire district after authorities feared trouble over the death of the Hurriyat leader.

Srinagar/Jammu, Aug 11 : With fresh clashes between police and protestors on Monday, leaving 20 people injured, curfew was imposed along a 34-km stretch from Sheeri to Uri in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir to prevent marchers from moving towards Muzafarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Atleast 20 people, including four securitymen, were injured in Baramulla District in clashes between police and protestors who tried to march towards the capital city of PoK in protest against the blockade of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway by agitators in Jammu over the Amarnath land transfer row

Jammu, Aug 11 : The Amarnath Yatra was halted today due to bad weather in Baltal and Pahalgam areas in south Kashmir.

Began on June 17, the pilgrimage is to end on August 16.

Security forces have been put on a high alert along the entire route of the pilgrimage to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

The security set-up consists of area domination and setting up of mountain posts by Army, deployments of CRPF and mobile patrolling by armed police.

Srinagar/Jammu, Aug 11: Security forces have been put on high alert around fruit markets here in view of the Hurriyat Conference’s call to march to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on Monday.

Jammu and Kashmir authorities have deployed additional policemen at the fruit market in Parimpora on the outskirts of Srinagar to foil any attempt to proceed to Muzaffarabad.

Jammu, Aug 11 : Curfew has been relaxed in Jammu following the improvement in situation which erupted after Hindus protested against the revocation of the transfer of Amarnath land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

In Jammu, curfew has been relaxed from 5.30 a. m. upto 4.00 p. m. while the relaxation has been given from 5.00 a. m. to 11.00 a. m. in Samba and its adjoining areas. In Udhampur, day curfew has been given lifted for five hours from 7.00 a. m.

The curfew in Poonch and Kathua has also been lifted.
