In fierce gun battles in Jammu and Kashmir the army pushed back the ultras, which had infiltrated under the cover given by the Pakistan along the LoC. In the shoot out two militants and an army jawan were killed.

The defence officials stated, "A group of armed militants entered the Indian Territory from Kabaristan post of Pakistan and were trapped by troops close to Kalash Indian Post between Zero line and border fencing along LoC in Poonch district on Sunday."

Doda, Sept 21: With just a month is left for the commissioning of the first 150-mw unit of the Baglihar hydropower project in Jammu, residents in the dam''s catchment area complained that they were yet to be rehabilitated. However, officials refuted their claim.

The 450-megawatt Baglihar dam is being built on the Chenab river, which flows from Kashmir into Pakistan.

Over 15,000 families have to be rehabilitated before the dam is commissioned. People living in a 60-kilometre radius of the dam have to be relocated. But, many said they were yet to receive compensation for their land, which would be submerged.

Jammu, Sept 21 : Hundreds of school children lighted candles and sang hymns to mark World Peace Day in Jammu on Sunday.

In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring September 21 as ‘World Peace Day’.

The students and their teachers prayed for peace in strife-torn Kashmir valley and the world at large.

Sister Phyllis, principal of a public school in Jammu stressed the need to maintain peace.

Jammu, Sept 21 : Following a two-day shutdown call given by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), which spearheaded the two month long agitation in Jammu over forestland transfer row, shops and business establishments remained closed today. However, private vehicles are plying as usual.

The Samiti (SAYSS) is demanding immediate implementation of the agreement signed between the State Government panel and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board last month.

According to the agreement, the shrine board will continue to discharge its duties and supervise arrangements of the pilgrimage with the State Government''s support.
