Army jawan commits suicide after altercation with seniors

Jammu, Jan 13:Army jawan suicide An army jawan has reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself after an argument with his seniors in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to official sources, sepoy Ganesh Chandra of 52 Engineers Regiment took the rifle of his colleague after an argument with his seniors on Saturday night and fired at himself.

After hearing the gunshots, senior officers rushed the jawan to a hospital where he died, they added.

Chandra was posted on guard duty near Line of Control (LoC) in Bhimber Gali area of Rajouri district

Buddhist monastery in Ladakh proves a tourists' draw

Nubra Vally (Ladakh), Jan 5: Disket Gompa, a Tibetan Monastery, located in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir is mesmerising tourists.

Disket has a dramatically positioned 'Gompa' or monastery on a hilltop, which is believed to have been founded in the early 15th century.

The 1400-year-old monastery built by a Buddhist Lama scholar Sherab Zsangpo has a school upto class five for 120 monks.

"A total of 120 lamas live here. We have one-hour traditional prayers daily. Apart from that we have five-six large-scale festive prayers. We have a mask dance as well," said Lobzang Dechan, a Lama.

Hostage crisis ends in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 25: The over 24-hour hostage crisis ended on Monday night after security forces killed the three militants hiding inside the mosque and rescued five persons in Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir.

The militants were driven out of their hiding when the security personnel threw tear smoke shells following which they were engaged in a gun battle in which two militants were killed, police sources said.

The third militant took shelter in one of the mosque's minarets and after nearly an-hour long encounter with the police he too was killed.

Police officials said that all the five hostages were safe. No damage has been caused to the mosque in the gun battle.
