Islamabad - At least eight people were killed and 23 injured Friday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a Shia Muslim funeral in Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province, officials said.

An angry crowd took to the streets after the blast in Dera Ismail Khan, and some people fired guns into the air in the city, which is 300 kilometres south of the provincial capital, Peshawar, and has been the scene of sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni Muslims in the past.

A small crowd also threw stones at police outside the hospital.

Islamabad, Nov 21: A senior Pakistan Army official has reportedly said that the army’s operational force in the Tribal Areas and FATA would be trained in accordance with the conditions in the areas.

He said that the army would be provided state-of-the art weapons in accordance with the budgetary allocation.

The constitution committee formed recently by the Ministry of Sports held its first meeting in Islamabad last evening under the chairmanship of Law Minister Farooq H Naik. At the meeting, some former and present Test cricketers, regional association representatives and some other experts gave their opinions on the ideal PCB constitution.

Islamabad, Nov 21: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has reportedly condemned US airstrikes inside Pakistan as ‘intolerable’, and said that he hoped the incursions would stop with the change in command at the White House.

Following the Opposition’s criticism of the government over Wednesday’s suspected US drone attack in Bannu, Gilani said in his policy statement that his government had no tacit understanding with the US on such strikes.

Islamabad, Nov 21: Pakistan nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan has reportedly filed a writ petition against his alleged detention yesterday at the Islamabad High Court.

The petition filed through former law minister and senior lawyer SM Zafar pleaded the court to order the authorities to ease the restrictions imposed on him in the name of security measures, reported the Daily Times.

Islamabad, Nov 21 : The Pakistan Government last evening reportedly summoned US envoy Anne Pietersen o register protests over Wednesday’s US drone attack on Bannu, the first strike outside Pakistan’s tribal areas.

On the occasion, the country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s stance over US violations of its sovereignty, saying that the ‘unilateral attacks’ were not helping counter-terrorism efforts, the Daily Times quoted sources as saying.
