Islamabad, Dec 28 : If reports are to be believed, Pakistan''s tsunami warning system is far from perfect, due to a lack of coordination between the district, provincial and national disaster management authorities.

According to a report in the Dawn, while Pakistan was spared the destruction of the 2004 tsunami, the country has experienced several earthquakes, some of them devastating.

The country faces a constant risk of experiencing a tsunami if an undersea quake strikes the Indian Ocean close enough to Pakistan''s coast.

Pakistan tones down war hysteria under international pressure

Yousuf Raja GilaniIslamabad, Dec. 27 : Amid rising international pressure, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that his country does not want a military confrontation with India.

''We don''t want to have aggression with our neighbours. We want to have friendly relations with our neighbours. I assure you once again that we will not act. We will only react," the Dawn quoted Gilani, as saying.

He was speaking at a special prayer ceremony to mark the first death anniversary of the former premier Benazir Bhutto. Bhutto was assasinated in a suicide attack while she was leaving an election campaign rally on 27 December 2007.

PIA paid close to Rs 2 crores penalty for transporting illegal passengers abroad

Pakistan International AirlinesIslamabad, Dec. 27 : As if its fragile financial health was not bad enough, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has landed itself the dubious distinction of being forced to shell out close to Rs 2 crores for transporting illegal passengers abroad.

According to a latest report by the Auditor General of Pakistan Revenue (AGP), the PIA has paid the massive amount as penalty for carrying illegal passengers.

"PIA has paid 17.066 million rupees between 2004 and 2006 for transporting passengers without legal documents to five countries," the Daily Times said quoting the

The audit report for 2007-08 shows that the Cabinet Division has not been provided with appropriate information on the expensive gifts the officials received over the year.
