Tehran - A mass execution of 10 convicted murderers, including one woman, was carried out Wednesday at Evin prison in the Iranian capital Tehran.

Iran's prosecutor demands death sentence for Mossad-linked agents

IranTehran - Iran's public prosecutor has demanded the death sentence for three Iranian agents allegedly linked Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, ISNA news agency reported Tuesday.

Saeid Mortazavi said that the three were trained in Tel Aviv but were arrested before they could start any operations.

Mortazavi said that the initial court demanded the death sentence for the three Iranian agents, ISNA reported.

A death sentence issued by the court should first be confirmed by the Supreme Court before the execution can take place.

Lebanon needs unity to stand against Israel, say Iran's leader

Ayatollah Ali KhameneiTehran - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday told visiting Lebanese President Michel Suleiman that to stand against Israel, Lebanon needed to maintain unity among various groups.

"Iran believes that the strength of all Lebanese groups lies in national unity for effectively confronting the Zionist regime (Israel)," the ayatollah said in his meeting with Suleiman.

Suleiman arrived in Tehran on Monday for a two-day state visit. He is the third Lebanese president to visit Tehran since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Iran will always stand by Lebanon, says Ahmadinejad

Tehran  - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday promised his visiting Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman that Iran would always stand by Lebanon.

"Lebanon has finally found its track after many stormy years and now enjoys tranquillity and security," Ahmadinejad said in his meeting with Suleiman.

According to ISNA news agency, Ahmadinejad further said Lebanese resistance against Israel had turned Lebanon into a symbol of courage in the region.

ISNA quoted Suleiman as saying his country was grateful to Iran for its constant support and hoped the Tehran-Beirut summit would lead to strengthening bilateral ties.

Iran warns it may use force against African pirates

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi said Monday that Iran would rather continue negotiations with the pirates.

He said in a press briefing that Iran preferred the problem to be settled through an international cooperation, including maritime groups, the United Nations and countries involved in the case.

But he added that other options were also possible.
