US may sell 24 air-to-ground-anti-ship missiles to India

Pentagon reopens bidding on tanker contract Washington, Sept 10 : The Pentagon is learnt to have notified to the US Congress of a possible sale to India of two dozen Harpoon air to ground anti-ship missiles.

The deal, in which Boeing would be the prime contractor, would be worth 170 million dollars, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said.

“India intends to use the Harpoon missiles to modernize its air force anti-surface warfare mission capabilities and improve its naval operational flexibility,” The News quoted the agency as saying in a statement.

Too early to take call on inflation: RBI Governor

Infrastructure for cross border trade reviewed in J-K

Four Indian soldiers killed in KashmirSalamabad (J-K), Sept 9 : A high-level Central Government team comprising of senior officers from Union Ministries of External, Home and Finance inspected the facilities for trade with Pakistan through the Kashmir valley recently.

The team accompanied by senior officers of State Government and military commanders visited the Kaman Post, last point on the Indian side on the Line of Control (LoC) and the upcoming land customs station at Salamabad near the Uri border town in Baramulla District in Jammu and Kashmir.

Thackeray warns Jaya not to provoke Maharashtrians

Raj ThackerayPune, Sept. 9 : In a sharp reaction to Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan''s controversial remarks on Marathi, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today asked her not to provoke Maharashtrians.

Thackeray in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamna said, "Jaya Bachchan has been making controversial statements that have vitiated the atmosphere leading to discord. I am once again appealing to these people that do not provoke us unnecessarily."

"If you rub us the wrong way and try to test our response, you will be on the run," he added.
