Jammu, Sept 1

New Delhi - Indian stocks tumbled in morning trading on Monday as the benchmark Sensex plunged 5.6 per cent on nervous selling by funds and investors on reports that US investment banker Lehman Brothers appeared ready to file for bankruptcy.

The 30-share-sensitive index was trading at 13,210 levels, a loss of 786 points, or a 5.61 per cent at 11:30 local time (0600 GMT), over an hour after opening.

Realty, capital goods, oil and pharma stocks declined sharply.

New Delhi, Sep 15 : Union Defence Minister A K Antony today reacted strongly to the failed infiltration bid by militants in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, and pointed fingers at Pakistan for supporting terror groups operating inside India.

“A large number of non-state armed groups have sanctuaries in our neighbouring states who use these bases and resources to carry out acts of terrorism across India,” he said.

“Militants are getting support from across the border and this is a fact,” Antony said on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Centre for Joint Warfare Studies 
(CENJOWS).

New Delhi, Sept 15: The 15th Session of Indo-French Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) is scheduled to be held here today.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Dr. Rahul Khullar, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The JCM will be attended by G. K. Pillai, Secretary (Commerce); Ajay Shankar, Secretary (DIPP); and senior officials from the Ministry of Power, Railways, Telecommunications, Urban Development, Road Transport and Highways, Mines, Posts and Information Technology.

On Tuesday, there will be a bilateral meeting between Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce and industry and Anne Marie Idrac, French Minister of State for External Trade.

New Delhi, Sept 15 : Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will inaugurate a two-day ''''International Seminar on Terrorism'''' here today.

The seminar is being organised by the Asia Pacific chapter of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). India presently chairs the Asia Pacific World Regional Office of the IACP, and in that capacity, is the organiser of the seminar.

The seminar is aimed at providing an interactive platform for sharing of expertise and experience between India and other countries, which are similarly affected, by militancy and terrorism.

New Delhi, Sept 14 : The Asia Pacific chapter of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is organizing an ''International Seminar on Terrorism'' here on September 15-16.

India presently chairs the Asia Pacific World Regional Office of the IACP, and in that capacity is the organizer of the seminar. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will inaugurate the seminar while National Security Adviser M. K. Narayanan will deliver the keynote address.
