Hyderabad : Airline barons Vijay Mallya and Naresh Goyal today quashed rumours of a merger between Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines.
"There is no equity swap. Our understanding is for purely commercial alliance," Mallya said on the sidelines of an aviation show here.
Justifying the coming together of the two airlines, which account for about 60 per cent of the market share, Goyal said that the break-even point for the aviation sector is at 90 per cent capacity utilisation whereas, "We are now operating between 60-70 per cent."
Chennai, Oct. 15 : Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Rajya Sabha member and daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Kanimozhi on Wednesday submitted her resignation from the upper house to the party chief and her father in line with the decision of an all-party meeting to put pressure on the Central Government to call for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.
Her resignation came a day after an all-party meeting on the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils passed a resolution that all members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu would quit within a fortnight to press the demand.
Mumbai, Oct. 15 : Finance Secretary Arun Ramanathan on Wednesday chaired a meeting of a panel of bankers and experts to explore options to ease liquidity pressure in the system.
The panel, which was appointed by the Central Government last week to make quick assessment of the liquidity requirement, is expected to submit an interim report within a week.
The high-powered group comprises IBA Chairman T S Narayanaswamy, UTI CMD U K Sinha, SIDBI CMD R M Malla, L&T CFO Y M Deosthalee and a representative of RBI. Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) chairman A P Kurien also attended the meeting.
Sources said the panel would list the options available with the government and the central bank to ease the liquidity crunch.
Kharsawa (Jharkhand), Oct. 15 : Jharkhand’s Singhbhum District, which till recently produced cocoons for silk weavers in Bhagalpur area, has also started producing Tussar silk.
The experimental silk unit set up at Kharsawa Block in north Singhbhum District have proved to be a success.
The District administration of the Singhbhum has identified and allocated the tasks of production of silk. One is for the urban regions and the other in rural areas.
Kuala Lumpur, Oct. 15 : Malaysia and India will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the exchange of workers between both countries in New Delhi in December.
