Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Rankings launch in Mumbai on Thursday

Dubai, Oct. 15 : The launch of the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Rankings will be held in the CK Naydu Room at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai at 12 p. m. on on October 16.

A media briefing involving David Richardson, ICC General Manager – Cricket, India captain Jhulan Goswami, ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2008 Charlotte Edwards of England and Sanjay Behl, head of branding at Reliance Communications, will take place at the same venue following the conclusion of the ceremony.

Pak students’ visit convinces them of India’s love for their country

Peshawar, Oct 15 : A group of Pakistani college students were a bit apprehensive about visiting India to attend a peace conference in Chandigarh, but once they landed on the Indian soil, all their fears had gone and they got warm welcome wherever they went. On learning they were from Pakistan, shopkeepers gave them discounts and people at large showered love on them, saying they wanted peace with their neighbouring country.

According to the Daily Times, families of Laila Shiraz, Feroz Faisal Shah, Nadeh Ali Mir and Mubasharullah vehemently opposed their India visit because of “poor relations” between the two countries. They too were nervous as they were going to a country which has fought four major wars with their beloved country.

Mayawati says Sonia Gandhi''s jail going threat is political drama

New Delhi, Oct. 15 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday described Congress president Sonia Gandhi''s challenge that she was ready to go to jail if not allowed into her constituency Rae Bareli as political drama.

Criticising the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for their step-motherly treatment of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati denied that she was playing politics through her decision to cancel the allotment of land for building a Railway Coach Factory that was to be inaugurated by Gandhi on Tuesday.

Irked by Sonia Gandhi’s remarks, Mayawati termed her allegations as baseless.

Reserve Bank and Government to infuse more liquidityNew Delhi, Oct 15 : The Reserve Bank and the government today agreed to take measures immediately to infuse liquidity into the system.

"RBI Governor D Subbarao will work out the details of the measures agreed upon between the government and the central bank," said Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.

I expect to be able to make a statement later in the afternoon, he added.

RBI Governor D Subbarao last evening called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. P. Chidambaram was present at the meeting.

Manmohan Singh welcomes Brazilian, South African presidents for IBSA summit

New Delhi, Oct 15 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today welcomed the South African President Kgalema Motlanthe and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who are in New Delhi to take part in the ongoing third India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Summit.

“We are honoured that President Motlanthe’s first visit overseas after assuming office is to India for the IBSA Summit. I would like to take this opportunity to place on record, on behalf of all of us, our deep appreciation for the contribution made by President Thabo Mbeki in supporting and taking IBSA forward,” Dr. Singh said.

India, Brazil discuss enhancing cooperation in Oil and Gas sector

New Delhi, Oct 15 : Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora met Miguel Jorge, Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil here today.

During the meeting, the two Ministers discussed measures to strengthen further ties of cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sector.

They also exchanged views on the use of ethanol in transport sector.
